Tell Senators Hawley and Schmitt: Reject Cuts to Older Americans Act Funding!
July 19, 2024
In their FY25 appropriations bill, the House has proposed dangerous cuts that would cause serious harm to older adults served by the aging network –
including a severe cut of $37 million in nutrition.
Missourians do not want to see cuts to senior centers or
to home delivered meals for seniors!
The Senate will take up the spending bill now, and we need Senator Hawley and Senator Schmitt to know
that Missourians want to protect Older American’s Act funding.

The Older American’s Act (OAA) serves as the backbone of Missouri’s non-Medicaid home and community based services. It funnels funding to ten Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) across the state. These AAAs provide critical programs that promote the health and independence of Missouri’s senior population and their caregivers.
However, the proposed House appropriations bill presents a mixed bag. While it includes some important increases to OAA funding, it also proposes significant cuts to vital programs like nutrition services, workforce, and Adult Protective Services. These cuts would severely impact the ability of Missouri’s aging network service to serve older adults, especially considering the state’s rapidly growing senior population and challenging economic climate.
Now more than ever, protecting OAA funding is crucial to ensure Missouri’s seniors can age with dignity and independence in their communities.
