May Is Older Americans Month

“Never Too Old to Play” is the theme of Older Americans Month in May. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services invites older adults to tap into their fun-loving and playful side during the month. Consider a 67-year-old who takes up harmonica for the first time or a 90-year-old who enjoys flying kites. Groups across the state will be celebrating this month in a variety of unique ways.

Older Americans Month originated with a presidential proclamation by John F. Kennedy in May 1963. Since then, U.S. presidents have proclaimed May 1 through May 31 as a time to honor and pay homage to older people.
