Feature Story: Northwest AAA’s New CEO

St. Joseph News-Press –

ALBANY, Missouri — Michael Stopka knows he has his work cut out for him heading up an agency for the region’s seniors, but he vows his training will help him comprehensively direct services for its clientele.

Stopka recently took over as chief executive officer for the Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging, replacing longtime predecessor Rebecca Flaherty, who served for 37 years and had been CEO since 2007 before retiring. The agency serves older adults in an 18-county area.

In less than a month on the job, Stopka already¬†has become acquainted with staff in both Albany and Cameron, Missouri, the homes for the agency’s administrative staff and programs. Early studies have included the first steps of familiarity in finances and the range of programs, which include contracting for meals and transportation and otherwise helping seniors maintain their independence and dignity in their homes and communities.
